BOOK NOOK REVIEWS: The Missing Pairs by Yvonne Ivinson

TITLE: The Missing Pairs

AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR: Yvonne Ivinson

PUBLISHER: Greenwillow Books, 2021

SYNOPSIS: Fox is missing a sock. Hare is missing a mitten. Badger is missing a boot. But what’s the use of wearing socks, mittens, and boots if you don’t wear a pair? Luckily, Fox, Hare, and Badger have a friend named Bear. And Bear knows just what to do Bear will solve the mystery of the missing pairs. Or will he?

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THIS BOOK : When I first picked up this book, I thought about one of my favorite picture book authors, Jan Brett and her book, The Mitten. I wondered if this was going to be a poor “copycat” of Ms. Brett’s story. I’m happy to report I was pleasantly surprised by this unique twist to a story about woodland creatures and their missing winter wear! Author/Illustrator Yvonne Ivinson brings to life Fox, Hare, and Badger’s search for who might have taken their missing sock, mitten, and boot. Friend Bear reaches out a helping hand and soon this foursome is on an adventure of a lifetime. I was NOT expecting the adorable ending. Young readers will have a hard time picking their favorite character in this tale of friendship and perseverance. A great addition to any library!
