BOOK NOOK REVIEWS: Goldie and the Three Hares by Margie Palatini

TITLE: Goldie And The Three Hares

AUTHOR: Margie Palatini

ILLUSTRATOR: Jack E Davis

PUBLISHER: Katherine Tegen Books, 2011

SYNOPSIS: “The Hare family—Papa, Mama, and Little Baby Hare—are enjoying a peaceful day in their rabbit hole until they hear a big THUMP outside their door. The thump is Goldilocks herself, who has fallen down the rabbit hole after being chased by the Three Bears.

(I think you know why those bears were chasing her.)

The Hare family is happy to help the girl, who has hurt her foot. But as you might imagine, Goldie is not a very good houseguest. She is tough to please, since every chair is too hard, too soft, or otherwise not just right.

(If you were the Hares, you might agree that Goldilocks is loud, obnoxious, and demanding.)

But when Goldie is finally comfy-cozy in the Hares’ rabbit hole, how are they ever going to get her to leave?”

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THIS BOOK : I came from a generation of children raised on the classic tale of Goldilocks and The Three Bears. So when I saw this book about what happens AFTER Goldilocks ran away from the three bears, of course my interest was peaked. I like how author, Margie Palatini, continues the tradition of Goldilocks self-centered adventure with some poor rabbits being her next victims. It might not be a bad idea to revisit the original story for young readers not familiar with the classic tale. Otherwise, readers will quickly be able to make the connection between the bears dealing with an unwanted guest and the rabbits’ troublesome visitor. An adorable story with great accompanying illustrations. A nice addition to any library!
