SYNOPSIS:
Terrance the turtle was born without a shell, so he uses a cardboard box instead. Terrance loves his box. It keeps him dry on soggy days, safe from snooping strangers, and is big enough to cozy up with a friend. But when another turtle points out that Terrance’s shell is, well, weird, he begins to wonder whether there might be a better shell out there…
Eventually, and through much trial and error, Terrance learns that there’s nothing wrong with being different–especially when it comes to being yourself.
WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THIS BOOK : I love Terrance the turtle in Vanessa Roeder’s picture book, The Box Turtle. He’s a scrappy little critter, born without a proper shell. He is given a box to use and is quite happy with his life until others start making fun of him because he’s not like all the other turtles. Apparently even turtles have feelings, and Terrance soon goes in search of a new shell to call home. Roeder’s whimsical illustrations take young readers on a fantastic journey of discovery where a new home isn’t always the cure for hurt feelings and true friends don’t really care what a person…or turtle…calls home. A wonderful addition to any library!
