BOOK NOOK REVIEWS: The Attic Christmas by B. G. Hennessy

TITLE: The Attic Christmas

AUTHORB. G. Hennessy

ILLUSTRATOR: Dan Andreasen

PUBLISHER:  G. P. Putnam’s Sons, 2004

SYNOPSIS:

When Angel, Mr. Macaroni, Silver Bell, Skier, Special Delivery, Santa, and Camel find themselves stuck in the attic with Christmas fast approaching, they know something is wrong. Every year Lily hangs them on the tree for her grandchildren, and now her house seems empty. “It’s like a baby with no bed,” says Angel. “We are ornaments without a tree. Without Lily, there will be no Christmas at all.”

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THIS BOOK :  I get nostalgic this time of year. Memories of childhood holidays swirl around me as cinnamon smells greet me when I walk through the grocery stores or the fresh pine smells as I stroll the aisles of Home Depot. Author, B. G. Hennessy, has created a touching story about Christmas ornaments eagerly awaiting their place on the family Christmas tree. But this year is different. This year they find themselves still tucked away in the attic and decide to create their own Christmas. The illustrations have a very nostalgic feel to them as well. Young readers will enjoy getting to know all the individual ornaments and joining in as they get ready for The Attic Christmas. A great addition to any library!
