WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THIS BOOK : I think well written books on little known historical events will never go out of style. Author Leah Henderson brings to light the deep gratitude freed slaves felt for all the soldiers who fought for their freedom. Famed illustrator Floyd Cooper brings to life those who celebrated that first Memorial Day after the Civil War was over. This is more than a simple children’s picture book. It is a look into the hearts and souls of an enslaved people and the responsibility they felt for remembering the sacrifices of those who fought in their honor. A great addition to any library!
