BOOK NOOK REVIEWS: Halloween Edition

I found this little poster gem on Pinterest and it reminds me today is Halloween! My favorite season is Fall for many reasons…cooler weather, changing leaf colors, overcast rainy days for someone allergic to the sun, and a perfect opportunity to immerse myself in cute Halloween picture books. Below are a few of the dozens of books I’ve brought home from my local library over the past couple of weeks. Some are favorites from years ago, while others were newly discover just for my reading enjoyment. Let me know in the comments below if you’ve read any of these wonderful books…

Book blurb…After a night of haunting, Boo the little ghost is wide awake! But Mama Ghost knows just what to do to help Boo fall asleep. “Listen,” she says, and Boo slowly dozes off to the comforting creaks and squeaks of the house. This lullaby-like picture book has the lyrical beauty of Margaret Wise Brown and is the perfect bedtime read.

Little Monster is going trick-or-treating for the very first time. There are going to be all kinds of creatures about, like witches and vampires and zombies. And lots of spooky noises too! As Little Monster makes his way around the neighborhood, Papa is there to help guide him through his fears as they encounter one scary thing after another…until they reach the last house of the night. It’s the spookiest house of all, and?YIKES!?there might be a surprise waiting for them. Will Little Monster be brave?

Trick or treat! Join your favorite dinosaurs as they visit a haunted house, carve pumpkins, make costumes, and more! Lisa Wheeler and Barry Gott come together again to show how these fun-loving dinos celebrate Halloween.

Ten creepy monsters met ’neath a gnarled pine.
One blew away,
And then there were nine.

And so the countdown begins . . . A mummy, a witch, a ghost, a werewolf, a vampire, and others all gather, but one by one their crowd diminishes. At last there is only one creepy monster left. But what kind of monster is it?

Have you ever built a snowman and discovered the next day that his grin has gotten a little crooked, or his tree-branch arms have moved? And you’ve wondered . . . what do snowmen do when we’re not watching?

After an early snowfall, a few kids build some snowmen before going trick-or-treating. And when the kids go off to bed, the snowmen have their own Halloween festival! There’s candy and apple-bobbing and costume contests and all sorts of autumn activities. When the kids wake up the next morning, the snowmen are gone… but they’ve left a very special message behind.
